What's free, what's paid,
and why.

Every chart and report is free to read. The API and the MCP server hand the data to your code and your agents, and there each dataset can only go as far as its licence allows. This page lists every dataset and where it sits.

On our free charts and reports, for anyone to read. Never served through the API or MCP, on any plan, because the licence doesn't allow it or we haven't confirmed that it does.

AESO electricity market: pool price, supply and demand, load forecastAlberta Electric System Operator (AESO)AESO terms of use: non-commercial, personal or educational use onlyAESO's terms allow non-commercial use only, so we show it on our free charts and never sell or serve it through the API. We have asked AESO for permission.

How we decide

  • We read each publisher's licence before we serve its data. If the licence says non-commercial, the data stays on the charts.
  • If we haven't read a licence yet, the data stays on the charts until we have. Data we haven't listed is never served.
  • When one answer mixes several datasets, it goes no further than the most restricted one in it.
  • Every API answer carries the notice its licences ask for, in the X-Data-Licence-Notice header (and in MCP answers as text). Keep it with the data when you republish.

If the API says no

  • 403, “charts only”: the data is on our free charts but its licence keeps it out of the API for everyone, or we haven't confirmed that it allows it yet. No plan changes that.
  • 402, “comes with a Data subscription”: a paid dataset asked for with a free key. Subscribing unlocks it.
  • 429: the free monthly allowance or a key's daily limit is used up. The answer says which; the monthly one also says when it resets.

Each refusal names the dataset and its licence, and links back to this page.

The API and MCP docs list every endpoint and tool. Where the data comes from links each publisher.
