What it is
Who uses cannabis in Alberta, and what the stores sell.
Use from Statistics Canada’s health survey, sales from its monthly retail survey and the cannabis authority tables, spending legal and illicit from the household accounts, and store counts from AGLC’s annual reports, side by side from 2017 on.
What it shows
Fewer people use it, and each one buys more.
In 2022, 27.1% of Alberta adults said they had used cannabis in the past year. In 2025, 20.5% did. Over the same years store sales rose from $797 million to $1.0 billion a year, from about $862 per user to about $1,275, and vapes and other inhaled extracts made up 88% of the rise in fiscal-year sales. Alberta sells more legal cannabis per adult than any other province. In the first eight months of 2026, sales ran 2.2% below the same months of 2025.
